Different countries, different issues, I think. In Thailand we're developing extremely fast, but for the human rights issues, we're just a little better than the actual third world countries. We can only partially "elect" our prime-ministers, so they're kind of semi-dictator. But people nowadays seem to not care so much anymore, as long as those leaders develop the country fast enough and improve some basic social welfares. Meanwhile, what I think is wrong with the western society is that they spend too much money feeding the lazy people. Many of freeloaders simply don't want to find a real job because they're satisfied with little money the government is paying them. In Asia, even the first world countries like Singapore or Japan, don't simply grant just anyone to receive welfares. Here we believe that even poor people will never let themselves or their kids starve to death. If they're not sick or handicapped to the point they can't move a muscle, they will eventually find a way to solve their financial issues and feed their family. So we only help the people who really really need it. In the west, they don't seem to push these people hard enough and think that feeding them welfares will solve everything.

Yes, we Thailand is a 3rd world country BUT people living a better life because everything are cheap also the city is more developed than in the states or any countries in Europe. It's all about most people in the west and especially in the states they never even go out of the country and see the real world so when they study about another countries they just look at the GDP of the country and judge the country only by the GDP!!! Yes, they may be right at most countries in the world but not Thailand and Bangkok where we have a very low GDP and it's because everything are cheap and we also grown most of the foods by ourselves so that's made the GDP of the country very low while some of our poor populations may live a better life than some people in the west or on the states. And That's why a lot of people in the states thought that Bangkok is a 3rd world country while it's much more developed than where they lived but they never know because they never see the real world and they believed that their countries are more developed because they are the 1st world. I have to say we Thai are so proud to be the 3rd world while we could live here in the paradise and of course never want to be the 1st world where there are only the word "1st world" but everything expensive and people live a hard life and also the city not that modern.

One scam i was victim to was getting in a taxi and asking to got to X, then they take you instead to Y. Y is pretty much empty with only 1 taxi place in site and they want a ridiculous amount to drive you back home. Also been victim to the no taxi meter scam. Also the padded bill scam. If you are in bangkok, best to use the tram system if possible, its cheap and quick and lessl ikely to get scammed.

As a Japanese person, I’ve been living in Thailand for 8 years. All I can say is Thailand is not a third world country. ^^

Thailand try to grow compared to first world countries. But Western media has underrated Thailand. To create misunderstandings about Thailand in the eyes of the world.

Thailand at best, is Bangkok.. the Single-Mature City (Lone-Metro town) in the country.

Its the people that make Thailand an attractive place to visit. Parts of Bkk are great,some less so, and the wider country certainly doesn't yet have things we consider the norn in the western world, sanitation for example.

Second world or better yet Alien World? Nice observations here but it's normal to make comparisons. It seems every you tuber talks about cities.... Bangkok is a festering wound on the face of the Earth with nice malls and a train system. I love Thailand but here are some thoughts 1. Face culture is great for us foreigners but horrible for Thais. 2. Dirty, and air and water pollution are off the charts (all surface water is part of the sewerage system). 3. Not fit for raising children (you're much better off staying in your western country to do that). 4. Affordable tropical location, beautiful women everywhere, Sabai sabai that's what you get here. It's a lot of fun, but if you can afford the west, there is way more fun to be had there within a system that is logical, safe, well thought out... I love my home country; it's incredible, but I get the most important basics that I personally need here in Thailand that I can't get at home: A low cost of living in a fun, tropical location with just enough conveniences to make life comfortable.

My first time in Bangkok was 2007. I heard about the taxi and tried to negotiate the rate down. Another scam was the telephone SIM cards in the airport. My second time to Bangkok was 2017. I had learned about the train from the airport, used my Google Voice account at cafes with WiFi, and took the boat taxis instead of tourist long boats. However, I did get hit with a hotel scam for a cleaning fee at Le Fenix Sukhumvit 11 Bangkok. Hotel staff claimed that they would not charge me unless I left the room damaged beyond repair. I left the room very clean and made the bed. I only stayed for a night at the airport hotel. Then when I returned to the USA I found this high hotel fee charged to my credit card.

It's like the level of ignorance, coupled with arrogance, is just mind numbing to me. These people, who many have never stepped one foot out of the state, let alone their home towns, think they know sooo much.🙄Good grief!

for thai people, we don’t really care about 3rd world or developed countries.. as it is clearly see, we have much better life , safer and better living in our own style. Calling developed country was very outdated old world perception, and does not represent any mean in the today situation 😂

some of the scammers are self defeating. for instance the parked taxis at tourist areas refuse to use the meter and can waste lots of time doing nothing but waiting for a sucker to agree. they end up losing more than they would have made had they took metered fares for that hour or two.. great scam compilation..some taxi drivers do not display their big photo taxi licence on dash as required by law. they may have had their license revoked or dont have a proper license in the first place. they may also be criminals that rented a taxi for scamming purposes. thailand is the world scam epicenter

The last couple of years in Bangkok many of the old public non-aircon buses has been replaced. If you see a 40-50 year old public bus every minute it can feel like being in a 3rd world country. That is the biggest change I have discovered the last 10 years. But how modern Thailand feels depend much on in which sub-district you are.
